HMJ Update 活動報告

For the past six months, the military junta has intensified its attacks on Chin State, leading to a highly unstable and dangerous situation in the Hualngoram region. Furthermore, global tensions in the Middle East have impacted logistics in Myanmar, making shipments from Japan difficult.

Amidst these challenges, we would like to share updates on our recent activities and the current reality on the ground.

ここ半年の間、ミャンマー国軍によるチン州への攻撃が激化しており、ホゥアルンゴラム地域の情勢は極めて不安定で危険な状況が続いています。さらに、中東情勢の悪化がミャンマー国内の物流にも影響を及ぼしています。

こうした状況下ではありますが、最新の活動状況と現地の状況についてご報告します。

Adjusting Our Educational Support

HMJ’s primary focus remains the education of children in Hualngoram. We continue to provide direct funding to schools in two villages (Satawm and Zimpui) as well as the HPO Education Department, which oversees all 49 schools in the region.

When attacks intensified in December, many schools were forced to close. We chose to continue funding the Satawm and Zimpui schools to ensure teachers remained supported and ready to resume classes at a moment’s notice. Conversely, we temporarily paused funding for the HPO Education staff as most were forced to evacuate the area.

As staff members have begun returning to the area, we resumed our support for the HPO Education office, sending funds on April 10 to cover operations for April and May.

教育支援の継続

HMJの活動の柱は、変わらずホゥアルンゴラム地域の子どもたちの教育支援です。サタウム（Satawm）とジンプイ（Zimpui）の2つの村の学校、および、地域内49校を統括するHPO教育部への直接的な資金援助を続けています。

12月に攻撃が激化した際、多くの学校が休校を余儀なくされました。教師たちがいつでも授業を再開できるよう、サタウムとジンプイの両校への支援は継続し、一方で、大半のスタッフが避難を余儀なくされたHPO教育部門への資金援助については、一時的に停止しました。

避難していたスタッフたちが地域に戻り始めたことを受け、4月12日に、4月・5月分の運営費をHPO教育本部へ送金しました。

The Struggle for Matriculation

In late March, matriculation exams (Grade 12) were held in Hualngoram. This is an arduous six-day process covering subjects like Burmese, English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, History and Economics. This year, 38 candidates registered, but 11 were unable to attend.

Tragically, most of the absentees were volunteer teachers who missed their own chance to graduate years ago due to the national crisis. They were scheduled to take the exam this year, however, the lack of consistent study time and the psychological toll of the conflict left many without the confidence to take the test. It is a heartbreaking reminder of how the “stolen education” of the youth continues to impact the community.

高校卒業試験の苦闘

3月末、ホゥアルンゴラム地域でも12年生（高校3年）の卒業試験（大学入学資格試験）が実施されました。ビルマ語、英語、数学、化学、物理、歴史、経済など6科目を6日間かけて受験するというものです。今年は38名が受験登録をしましたが、そのうち11名が欠席となりました。

欠席者のほとんどは、国内混乱により学生時代に卒業の機会を逃したボランティア教師たちです。遅れて受験の機会を得ていましたが、断続的な攻撃の中で学習時間を確保できず、心理的な負担も重なり、試験に臨む自信を持つことができなかった。若者の「奪われた教育」がいかに彼らの人生に与え続けているかを物語る、痛ましい現実です。

Upcoming Plans for Educational Funding

In Chin State, schools are currently on spring break, with the new academic year scheduled to begin in June. We are in constant contact with HPO leaders to assess the safety of the region and will continue to adapt our support to ensure it reaches the children in the most effective way possible.

今後の教育支援計画

チン州では現在春休み期間中で、6月から新年度が始まります。HMJでは、現地組織HPOと連絡を取り合い、現地の安全状況を確認しながら、子どもたちへ最善の形で支援が届くよう柔軟に対応してまいります。

Soccer Gear Collection: Spring 2026

Thanks to the Urayasu Football Association and word-of-mouth advocacy, we received a huge influx of donations this spring.

Together, we have collected nearly 1,000 items, including balls, uniforms, shoes, shin guards, and training equipment.

Postponement of Shipment

While we are eager to send these items, the situation in the Middle East is causing critical fuel shortage in Myanmar. While the military junta maintains priority access to fuel, the general public is left with very little. Because we cannot currently guarantee the safe or timely transportation of goods from the port in Yangon to the mountains of Chin State, we have decided to store these items safely in Japan until the situation stabilizes.

2026年春：サッカー用品の回収

浦安市サッカー協会様のご協力や口コミの力により、この春、非常に多くの寄付をいただきました。

発送の延期について

一刻も早くこれらを届けたいところですが、中東情勢の影響により、ミャンマー国内では深刻な燃料不足が発生しています。限られた燃料は国軍に優先的に割り当てられ、一般市民にはほとんど行き渡りません。ヤンゴン港からチン州の山岳地帯までの安全かつ確実な輸送を保証できないため、状況が安定するまで日本国内で保管することとしました。

Lectures – 講演活動

On February 5, we were invited to speak at a meeting hosted by the Ikebukuro Toshima-East Rotary Club about the situation in Myanmar and HMJ activities.

2月5日、池袋豊島東ロータリークラブで卓話を担当させていただき、ミャンマーの現状とHMJの活動についてお話させていただきました。

Cooking Event – ミャンマー家庭料理の会

On March 25, we hosted a successful luncheon for the AAnet Urayasu community. Sawmi prepared authentic Myanmar home cooking, allowing residents to connect with Myanmar’s culture through its flavors.

3月25日、地元のAAnetうらやすの皆様をお招きし、ミャンマー家庭料理のランチ会を開催しました。HMJ代表ソウミが作る本場の味を通して、地域の皆様にミャンマーの文化に触れていただく貴重な機会となりました。

Water Festival (Thingyan) – 水かけ祭り

On April 9, HMJ participated in the Myanmar Water Festival in Tokyo. This massive annual event drew over 26,000 visitors over the weekend, providing a vital platform for us to raise awareness and funds while celebrating the resilient culture of the Myanmar people.

4月9日、東京で開催された「ミャンマー水かけ祭り」に参加しました。週末だけで2万6千人以上の来場者があった毎年恒例のイベントは、困難に負けないミャンマーとその文化を祝いながら、活動への認知を広げ、支援を募る貴重な機会となりました。

Connecting Through the UWORD Community

We also wish to express gratitude to the UWORD community, a vibrant “word-of-mouth support community” built on the spirit of mutual encouragement. Through UWORD’s events and “Marche” gatherings, we’ve had the invaluable opportunity to meet many compassionate supporters. These connections have helped us share the stories of the children in Chin State with a wider, warm-hearted audience.
