CNDF Withdraws from Hualngoram — Schools Still Closed, Recovery Begins ホゥアルンゴラム地域からCNDF撤退

We are relieved to report that as of July 11, 2025, the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) has been pushed out of the Hualngoram region following their armed incursion that began earlier this month.
While no buildings were destroyed, communities were left devastated — schools remain closed, homes were ransacked, and residents are still in shock.

CNDF（チン民族防衛軍）から武力侵攻を受けていたホゥアルンゴラム地域ですが、2025年7月11日にすべての兵士が撤収しました。建物こそ破壊されなかったものの、地域全体に甚大な被害が残り、学校は休校のまま、家屋は荒らされ、住民は今もショックから立ち直っていません。

Timeline of Events

July 2: CNDF launched a surprise offensive, taking over four villages, including Satawm. All schools in Hualngoram were forced to shut down.

July 5: CNDF captured Rihkhawdar and Tio Khaw Mawi, two towns located at the official border gate with India

July 6: CNDF issued an order for all residents living near the border gate to vacate their homes within 30 minutes.
Thousands fled in whatever clothes they had on, unable to pack or prepare.
An estimated 4,000 people crossed into Mizoram, India, within three days.

July 11: After days of fighting, the Chin National Alliance (CNA), including CDF-Hualngo, pushed CNDF out of Hualngoram.
Though no buildings were destroyed, nearly every house was looted and left in disarray.
Families reported thefts of cash, gold, clothing, and motorcycles.

Rih Hospital, the only hospital in Hualngoram was also left heavily damaged. Staff are busy cleaning up and restoring the water pipes, which were destroyed.

🏫 Situation in Satawm Village

During the occupation, CNDF soldiers broke the lock and occupied the school in Satawm from July 5 to 11.
July 14: All villagers and children returned to Satawm.
Three of the five teachers are back; the remaining two are expected to return before classes resume.
🕯️ Sadly, schools have not yet reopened. HPO and local authorities have a lot of work ahead to restore education services.

7月14日には、すべての住民と子どもたちがサタウム村に帰還。

教師5人のうち3人が既に戻っており、残る2人も授業再開までには戻る予定です。
しかし、学校はまだ再開されておらず、教育活動再開に向けた多くの課題が残っています。

Moving Forward

HPO’s Education Office in Tiau has not been disrupted and remains operational.
This enables us to maintain contact and assist them.
HMJ spoke with one of the teachers from Satawm, who shared how much the children had been looking forward to returning to school.
Following the 2021 military coup, HMJ has helped to reopen this school in Satawm Village. Through covering teacher salaries and stationery costs, we’ve watched it grow, thanks to the dedication of the teachers, HPO, and the local community.

We remain hopeful that schools will reopen soon, bringing much-needed structure and healing to the children of Satawm. Thank you for standing with the children and families of Hualngoram.
