Attack and School Closures

Soon after the new academic year in Myanmar began in June, tragedy struck:
On July 2, 2025, the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) launched an attack on Hualngoram, forcing the closure of all 47 schools in the Hualngoram region. (Click HERE for full story)

Zimpui School was spared from direct violence and did not require evacuation. It was the first school to reopen — on 21 July — after a 10-day closure.

Satawm School suffered far more damage. All families and children evacuated, and CNDF soldiers occupied the school for about 10 days. The school remained closed for a whole month.

ジンプイ校は直接的な暴力を免れ、避難の必要はありませんでした。そのため、閉鎖から10日後の7月21日、地域で最も早く再開した学校となりました。

一方、サタウム校はより深刻な被害を受け、全ての家族と子どもたちが避難。CNDF兵士が約10日間学校を占拠していたため学校再開まで丸1か月かかりました。

Cleanup at Satawm School

When the community returned from evacuation, they found the school buildings soiled and many items damaged or destroyed. Many chairs and benches were broken beyond repair.

避難していた住民が戻ってきたものの、兵士が占拠していた学校施設はひどく汚れ、多くの備品が破損されていました。

Soldiers had used soccer uniforms as cleaning rags. These uniforms were part of HMJ’s other activity — collecting used soccer goods in Japan and sending them to Myanmar to encourage children’s sports.

The kindergarten classroom was damaged by drone-dropped bombs, and is now unusable.

Preschoolers and first-grade students are being taught together.

Students of Satawm now back in school

After teachers, parents and even some students joined to clean up the school, there were able to reopen on August 5. Students of Satawm Village are now happily back in school.

教師や保護者、そして一部の生徒も協力して清掃作業にあたり、8月5日にようやく学校再開となりました。今、サタウム村の子どもたちは元気に登校しています。

Partnership and Funding Agreement

In June 2025, Heartship Myanmar Japan (HMJ) signed a partnership agreement with HPO Education to continue supporting Satawm and Zimpui schools in Hualngoram, Chin State.

Semi-annual funds to cover teachers’ monthly salaries and stationery for the students have been sent and received successfully.

協力体制と資金提供に関する合意書

2025年6月、ハートシップ・ミャンマー・ジャパン（HMJ）はチン州ホゥアルンゴラム地域のサタウム校とジンプイ校の支援を継続するため、HPO教育部と協力体制と資金提供に関する合意書を締結しました。教師の月給および生徒の文具購入費などを賄うための半年分の資金が、無事に送金・受領されました。

Funds will be sent semi-annually starting this year due to the increase in the number of students and teachers, resulting in a higher amount of funds.
Satawm School purchased notebooks, pencils, markers, and glue.
Zimpui School purchased new sets of textbooks.
Receipts for both have been received.
