URGENT UPDATE: Schools Disrupted by Armed Conflict in Hualngoram, Chin State
Heartship Myanmar Japan (HMJ) is deeply concerned, and we need to share an urgent update from Chin State, Myanmar, where armed conflict has reached the villages we support through our education partnership with the Hualngoram People’s Organization (HPO).
【緊急報告】ミャンマー チン州 ホゥアルンゴラム地域での武力衝突により学校が休校中
現在、ミャンマー・チン州のフアルンゴラム地域にて武装衝突が発生し、ハートシップ・ミャンマー・ジャパンが教育支援を行っている村々に深刻な影響が出ています。
現地パートナーであるHPO（Hualngoram People’s Organization）と連携し、教育活動を支えてきた地域での出来事です。
CNDF launches armed incursion into Hualngoram
In late June, the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) launched an offensive into the Hualngoram region, sparking intense clashes with local resistance forces, including CDF Hualngoram. At least four villages, including Satawm, have come under attack.

Since July 4, the situation has escalated into hours of nonstop gunfire and grenade attacks. At least three civilians have died, and others remain missing.

6月下旬、チン民族防衛軍（CNDF）がホゥアルンゴラム地域に侵攻し、CDFホゥアルンゴラムを含む地元の抵抗勢力と激しい戦闘に突入しました。サタウム村を含む4つの村が攻撃の対象となっています。

7月4日以降、数時間にわたる激しい銃撃と手榴弾による攻撃が確認され、少なくとも3名の民間人が命を落とし、複数の住民が行方不明となっています。

🏫 Children displaced, schools suspended
Education has been suspended in schools in the Hualngoram region including Satawm and Zimpui Village, where HMJ supports a community-run school.
Many families have fled to neighboring Mizoram, India, while others remain in the village under significant risk. With monsoon rains, the situation for refugees is extremely difficult. One individual drowned while attempting to cross a flooded river.
Children who remain in the village can no longer play outside safely, and teachers report:
“The children ask us almost every day when they can go back to school. It’s hard for them.”

HMJが支援しているサタウム村とジンプイ村を含むホゥアルンゴラム地域全土の学校では授業が中断され、家族の多くは隣接するインド・ミゾラム州へ避難、一部の住民は危険を承知で村にとどまっています。雨季による激しい雨の中、避難は困難を極め、川を渡る途中で溺れて亡くなった村民もいます。
村に残っている子どもたちは屋外で遊ぶこともできず、連絡してきた先生は次のように話しています：
「子どもたちは、毎日のように『いつ学校に戻れるの？』と聞いてきます。本当に辛い状況です。」

Conflict worsened by drug trafficking
According to local sources, this conflict is not only political but also connected to drug trafficking. CNDF is allegedly involved in narcotics trade and aligned with ZRA, a group that cooperates with Myanmar’s military junta (SAC).
In recent months, large quantities of heroin were seized in Hualngoram—including at a nursery school operated by a CNDF member. HPO, which manages the legal border gate, has been working with the Mizoram State Government to stop trafficking, which may have made them a target.
麻薬取引も絡む複雑な背景
現地からの情報によれば、今回の戦闘には麻薬取引が関与しているとされています。攻撃を仕掛けたCNDFは麻薬密輸に関与しており、ミャンマー国軍（SAC）と関係のあるZRAと連携していると言われています。
ここ数ヶ月で、CNDF関係者が運営する保育園などから大量のヘロインが押収されたこともありました。HPOは、国境ゲートを管理しつつ、ミゾラム州政府と協力して麻薬の流入防止に取り組んでおり、これが攻撃の標的となった可能性もあります。
💬 HMJ’s role and next steps
HMJ has been supporting education in Hualngoram through:
- Funding teachers and school operations in Satawm and Zimpui
- Supporting the HPO Education Office, which oversees education across the region
HPO’s education activities are now on hold, but we will remain in contact with them and share with you updates as much as possible. We are not launching an emergency fundraising campaign at this time, but the need for support will be greater than ever when the conflict ends.

HPOの教育活動は現在中止せざるを得ない状況ですが、今後も現地と連絡をとりながら可能な限り状況をお伝えしていきます。現時点では緊急募金キャンペーンは行いませんが、戦闘終結後にはこれまで以上の支援が必要になると考えています。
