This is an update about the school in Satawm village, Chin State, Myanmar which we have been supporting since July, 2022.
2022年7月から支援しているミャンマー・チン州サタウム村の学校についてお知らせします。
Following a battle between the junta and CDF (Chin Defense Force) in the village in September 2022, the area was attacked by military helicopters and planes for three straight days in November. As a result, most of the villagers went into hiding in their farmhouse (where they would less likely be a target) or in the woods. The school had to close for about 3 months during this time.
2022年9月に村で起きた国軍とCDF（チン防衛軍）の戦闘に続き、11月には3日連続で軍のヘリコプターと航空機による攻撃を受けました。その結果、村人のほとんどは家を捨て、（標的になりにくい）農家や森の中に身を隠すことになり、この間は学校も3カ月ほど閉鎖せざるを得ませんでした。
Still, last year there were a total of 21 students between kindergarten and grade 4. This year, the school year has started with 39 students.There are more students this year because almost all the villagers who had fled their homes have finally returned.
それでも昨年は、幼稚園から4年生までの合計21人の生徒が在籍。今年度は39人でスタートしました。村を離れていた人々がほぼ全員戻ってきたため、生徒数が増えたとのことです。
To start the new school year, new stationery were distributed to the children in Satawm this past summer. 7 dozens of English notebooks, 7 dozens of notebooks, 30 erasers, 120 pencils were were purchased at the nearest large city Kalay by one of our supporters.
新学期を迎えるにあたり、この夏、サタウムの子どもたちに新しい文具が配布されました。
英語ノート7ダース、通常ノート7ダース、消しゴム30個、鉛筆120本を、一番近い町Kalayで購入し運びました。
It is not easy to transport goods to a remote village like Satawm. First, they drive to Tio, which is about 140 km. The majority of the roads are not paved. If the road conditions are good, it takes roughly 9 hours. From Tio to Satawm, the road conditions are worse, and the fastest way to travel is by motorbikes. It takes about 2 hours to travel less than 50 km to Satawm village.
サタウムのような辺境の村に物資を運ぶのは容易ではありません。まず、KalayからTioまで約140キロを車で移動。道路の大半は舗装されていません。道路事情が良ければ、9時間の道のりです。
TioからSatawm村までは道がさらに悪いため、バイクで移動するのが一番早いとのこと。およそ2時間で村まで50キロ弱かかります。
