Four Years of Heartship Myanmar Japan: Looking Back and Looking Ahead

Since launching in October 2021, Heartship Myanmar Japan (HMJ) has remained committed to supporting children in Myanmar—especially those living in remote, mountainous regions of Chin State. Our mission began with a simple hope: to brighten the lives and futures of children, even just a little, during a time of great uncertainty.

Unfortunately, the situation in Myanmar remains dire. More than four years after the military coup, many parts of the country are still facing conflict. In Hualngoram, Chin State, where we focus our efforts, the government provides no support for schools or hospitals. Education has become entirely dependent on the compassion and cooperation of communities—and supporters like you.

Starting with the reopening of Satawm School in 2022, HMJ has expanded its educational support to include two schools—Satawm and Zimpui Village School. In addition, we send funds to support the operation of the HPO Education Office, which manages all 47 schools across the Hualngoram region and oversees the progress of students.

ハートシップ・ミャンマー・ジャパン 4年目の歩み：これまでとこれから

2021年10月の立ち上げ以来、ハートシップ・ミャンマー・ジャパン（HMJ）は、特にチン州の山間部に暮らす子どもたちの教育支援に力を注いできました。不安定な情勢の中で、子どもたちの人生と未来を少しでも明るくすること。それが、私たちのシンプルで強い願いでした。

残念ながら、ミャンマーの情勢は依然として厳しいままです。クーデターから4年以上が経った今も、多くの地域で紛争が続いています。支援を行っているチン州ホゥアルンゴラム地域では、今も政府が運営する学校や病院がありません。教育は地域のボランティア組織、そして皆様のような支援者に完全に頼っている状況です。

2022年のサタウム校再開を皮切りに、HMJの教育支援は拡大し、現在はサタウム校とジンプイ村の2校を支援しています。さらに、ホゥアルンゴラム地域全体の47校を統括し、生徒の進捗管理も担っているHPO教育事務所の運営資金も送っています。

Responding to Growing Needs

Over the past year, the number of students in Hualngoram has grown. Refugees fleeing violence in other regions have settled in the area, and some families who previously evacuated have begun to return. As a result, the overall student population is rising—and with it, the amount of funding required to keep schools running.

To meet these growing needs, HMJ must now send nearly double the amount of funding compared to previous years. In response, we have shifted from sending support annually to semi-annually starting in 2025, to better manage the growing budget and provide more stable support throughout the year.

拡大するニーズへの対応

この1年で、ホゥアルンゴラム地域の生徒数は増加しています。他地域から逃れてきた避難民が移り住み、また、村を離れて避難していた家族が戻り始めているためです。その結果、生徒数が増えるにつれて、学校を維持するために必要な資金も増えています。

HMJではこれまでの2倍近くの資金を送る必要があるため、2025年からはプロジェクトごとの送金を年1回から年2回に変更し、増加する予算を安定的かつ柔軟に管理できる体制に移行しました。

Highlights from the Past Year

✅ Completed the construction of a new classroom building in Bochung Village—one of the poorest communities in the Hualngoram region.

✅ Raised and sent ¥295,000 in earthquake relief to help victims of the devastating March 2025 earthquake in Myanmar, partnering with the local Namlat Foundation.

✅ Held community lectures in Japan to raise awareness about the situation in Myanmar and share our mission with local audiences.

✅ Collected used soccer goods in collaboration with the local soccer association in Japan and shipped them to Myanmar

この1年の主な活動

学校運営支援に加えて、以下の活動も実施しました：

✅ ホゥアルンゴラム地域で最も貧しい村の一つであるボゥツゥン村にて、新しい教室棟の建設を完了

✅ 2025年3月に発生したミャンマー地震の災害支援金として集まった295,000円を現地ボランティア組織Namlat Foundationへ送金

✅ 日本国内でミャンマーの現状やHMJの活動について知ってもらうための講演会に登壇

✅浦安市サッカー協会の協力で中古サッカーグッズを集め、ミャンマーに発送

Looking Ahead

As we enter our fifth year, we aim to bring our donors and supporters even closer to the children they support. One of our new initiatives will be to conduct interviews with students, allowing us to follow their growth and share their personal stories over time. We are currently working with our partners in Myanmar to select children for the first round of interviews.

これからに向けて

5年目を迎えるにあたり、支援者の皆様と現地の子どもたちとのつながりを、より身近に感じられるようにしたいと考えています。その一環として、生徒たちへのインタビューを定期的に実施し、子どもたちの成長や声を皆様にお届けするべく、現在、現地のパートナーと協力し、初回のインタビュー対象となる生徒の選定を進めています。

すべての活動が実現できているのは、皆様のご支援のおかげです。これからも、学び・つながり・希望に満ちた一年を、皆様と共に歩んでいきたいと思っています。
